A Manual Of Acupuncture - Peter Deadman

A Manual Of Acupuncture - Peter Deadman
Eastland Press | Edition 2003-06-15 | ISBN 0951054686 | CD-ROM | 3*95.3mb + 90.3mb

Once in a great while an extraordinary book is published that sets an entirely new standard in its field. A Manual of Acupuncture, published by Journal of Chinese Medicine Publications, is just such a book. Painstakingly researched over many years by Peter Deadman, editor-in-chief of The Journal of Chinese Medicine, and colleagues Mazin Al-Khafaji and Kevin Baker, this book has become the primary reference in the West for the study of acupuncture points and channels. With the subtle use of color to illustrate the acupuncture points and anatomical features, the new second edition of A Manual of Acupuncture is even more attractive and user-friendly than the first. Introductory chapters describe and illustrate the channels and collaterals, the various categories of points, and methods of selection, location, and needling. Ensuing chapters present each of the points of the 14 channels as well as the extra (miscellaneous) points, identified by their English and pinyin names, and Chinese characters. Each point is located in accordance with the most exacting anatomical standards to be found in any Western textbook. For each point there is a dedicated drawing, followed by regional body drawings. The quality of the 500 drawings is far superior to those in any other TCM text. There are also practical pointers for finding and needling the points, and cautionary information about what to avoid. In addition to point indexes by their English and pinyin names, there is an index identifying every part of the body reached by each of the channels, and separate indexes of point indications listed according to both TCM and biomedical symptoms.

The Medical Basis of Psychiatry, 3rd edition (US$185)

The Medical Basis of Psychiatry, 3rd edition (US$185)
Stationary Office | Pages: 824 | 2008-05-16 | ISBN: 1588299171 | 18 MB

Psychiatry has emerged as a burgeoning scientific field with major advances in etiology and treatment of several disorders. Just as there was excitement in the anatomic advances that took place a hundred years ago when Emil Kraepelin and his collaborators took on the enormous task of classification of psychiatric disorders based on rational scientific thinking, new advances in genetics, biochemistry, neuroanatomy and pharmacotherapy of mental disorders have brought us even closer to a better understanding of complex disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and even autism. The major goal of the previous edition of this classic book was to update the busy clinician, psychiatric resident and medical student with the most up-to-date information on etiology, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders. This goal remains the focus of the third edition of this book. In this updated and expanded edition, the reader is provided with the most contemporary information and literature supported by a close survey of the field. Several new chapters dealing with new concepts in biology and treatment of mental disorders have been added. This new edition of this classic title, with its focus on biologic and medical aspects of psychiatry, will continue to be of significant help to all interested in the scientific practice of psychiatry.

Surfaces and Interfaces for Biomaterials (US$569)
Stationary Office | Pages: 824 | 2005-05-30 | ISBN: 1855739305 | 7 MB

Biomaterials research has under gone a variety of evolutionary, one might say revolutionary, developments in recent years. The full entry of biomaterials as a credible modality in modern medicine was essentially triggered by the work of John Charnley on hip replacement. Then, as now, bulk materials properties and biomechanics took centre stage in view of the stringent mechanical and tribological demands of the implants. However, such issues cannot be the sole determinants of clinical outcome . Interest in bulk properties has inevitably shifted to the important consideration of the surface with the plethora of allied interfacial phenomena , conditioning clinical outcome. A consideration of the interface goes beyond the realms of an intellectual research exercise given that, even today, implants are better characterise d by a bioincompatibility, rather than the hoped for ‘inertness’ of biocompatibility.

Humana Press | 2007-10-23 | ISBN: 1588297802 | 446 pages | PDF | 2,2 Mb

In Handbook of Drug Monitoring Methods: Therapeutics and Drug Abuse, authors discuss the different analytical techniques used in today’s practice of therapeutic drug monitoring and drugs of abuse as well as alcohol testing with relevant theory, mechanism, and in-depth scientific discussion on each topic. This volume is the perfect handbook and quick reference for any clinical laboratory, allowing clinicians to find the potential source of a false-positive or a false-negative result in the daily operation of a toxicology laboratory. At the same time, this book can also be used as a reference for medical technologists, supervisors, laboratory directors, clinical chemists, toxicologists, and pathologists to find in-depth cause of a potential interference and what tests can be ordered to circumvent such problem. The volume’s first half focuses on various issues of therapeutic drug monitoring. Additional chapters cover analysis of heavy metals, alcohol testing, and issues of drugs of abuse testing. These chapters are written by experts in their relative sub-specialties and also by the editor. Comprehensive and timely, Handbook of Drug Monitoring Methods: Therapeutics and Drug Abuse is the ideal text for clinicians and researchers monitoring alcohol and drug testing and other important tasks of toxicological laboratory services.
